Ricky Smiley Morning Show and Coming Out

So, the Ricky Smiley show had a discussion about how their listeners would handle it if their child came out to them.

And the response?

Well, let's quote a friend of mine:

Yesterday on the Rickey Smiley show the topic of discussion was whether or not parents would accept their children if they came “out”.

Gary (one of the host) had the nerve to criticize young gays and lesbians about being this way and going as far as to say that young LGBT people don't come “out” with any class. And yes the comments from his listeners were even worse...some people even admitted that they would disown their own children.

Being that LGBT youth account for 35% of all youth suicides attempts, and 42% of all homeless youths, I think he should be making sure his listeners know these numbers, as opposed to his criticism. These numbers are ridiculous when the LGBT community only accounts for maybe 10%.

One other note, you can also drop the show a line and ask them to do the right thing, ask them to do another show with experts to educate people about these numbers and what abandoning or disowning their children can do to those same children.
