I just returned from the swearing in of Ambassador David Huebner as the Ambassador to New Zealand and the Independent State of Samoa.
Ambassador Huebner was accompanied by his partner of more than 20 years, Dr. Duane McWaine, and both their families.
In his remarks Vice President Biden reflected on how impactful this appointment was because, "America projects it's best face to the world when it reflects the diversity of our country", and going on to say that Ambassador Huebner's appointment helps to strengthen our "National journey for greater justice and fairness at home and abroad".
I hate to politicize Ambassador Huebner and Dr. McWaine's special day, but as I set waiting for the swearing in to begin I could not stop thinking about my earlier post and Bishop Harry Jackson's continued comments about black people not supporting marriage equality. Not only was Ambassador Huebner's family present, but Dr. McWaine's, beautiful black family was fully present and full of excitement and joy for their two loved ones.
Congratulations Ambassador Huebner and Dr. McWaine. I am certain you both will represent our great nation well.
And again I say, Bishop Jackson speak for yourself and stop attempting to speak for the entirety of Black America.
Ambassador Huebner
