As I woke up to the continuing gloom and doom forcasts of Democratic loses in today's elections, I had to ask myself what it all means. Surely our committment to advancing a progressive agenda shouldn't depend on the outcome of one election cycle? Yes, if Republicans gain control of the house of representatives things will be more difficult to get done and in most cases unlikely, however the reality is that things haven't been all that easy to get done over the last two years. The bottom line is that no matter what happens today, those of us working to advance progressive causes have to continue working hard to advance our agenda. We cannot give up and any Democratic loses that occur today are not a referendum on our progressive change agenda. It's the outcome of increased and unregulated corprorate spending in this election cycle and national media that has been building up the story they wanted to be able to tell. At the end of the day the outcome of who controls the halls of congress may be closer than has been predicted and in either possible scenario, the real story isn't what happens today, but what those elected do or choose not to do in the year ahead. Regardless, I know I have to continue to work and do my part to build a strong sustainable progressive infrastructure that will win the war, not just today's battle.
