I must thank Lisa Ling and the OWN network for producing a show that truly serves to stimulate conversation, thought, and reflection on a topic we shy away from having genuine meaningfull discussion about in American Society.
This series took me back to my childhood where week after week I listened to the pastor of my parents church condemn homosexuals to burn in hell. I watched the torment and pain that it caused people in our church who were looking to be "delivered" from their sexual attraction to the same sex.
I always thought, how could the God that created me, have done so to condemn me to hell and eternal life without love. Could this really be God's will for my life?
For me it wasn't scripture or religious teaching the answered this question, it was experiencing love. It was the unconditional love of an amazing soul who can in the form of another man, that helped me realize that if God created me and all that God created was good, then that same God has created me to live and love as I have been designed.
I look forward to the day when so many conversations about sexuality are not framed from the lens of what people shouldn't be, but are framed from the lens of how we empower people to be fully present in life, living and loving all aspects of who they are.
